Advancing the Gospel. Transforming Campuses.

My Mission

Bringing the Gospel to Students. Transforming Campuses.

As a Campus Staff Minister with InterVarsity, I have the privilege of reaching students with the hope of Jesus on campuses where faith is often overlooked. Through HINU Fellowship at Haskell Indian Nations University and Nationally with Catalyze, I create spaces where students can encounter Christ, grow in discipleship, and take the gospel back to their communities.

đź“Ś Every student deserves the chance to hear the gospel in a way they can understand and receive.

HINU Fellowship

Bringing the Gospel to Native students at Haskell Indian Nations University

HINU Fellowship is a collaborative ministry between InterVarsity and CRU, where students explore faith, grow as leaders, and encounter Jesus in ways that honor their identity.

Catalyze: Reaching Unreached Campuses

Launching new ministries where none exist

Through InterVarsity’s Catalyze initiative, I help bring the gospel to Tribal Colleges, Native American-Serving Institutions, and universities across the country where students are seeking truth and hope.

Discipleship & Leadership Development

Raising up the next generation of Christian leaders

I mentor and equip students to grow in their faith, lead Bible studies, and share the gospel with others—so they can carry Christ’s message beyond the campus.

When We Pray, God Moves

Prayer is the foundation of my ministry

I pray because God is moving—on campuses, in students’ lives, and across the country. Prayer isn’t just part of ministry; it is the work of ministry. Every conversation, every gospel opportunity, and every changed life begins with prayer.

All about Red Earth a.k.a. Steven Walker

I am Red Earth, an enrolled member of the Mandan, Hidatsa, and Arikara (MHA) Nation, specifically Hidatsa and Arikara, as well as Comanche and Delaware. Within the Arikara tribe, I am a member of the Dead Grass Society and hold the honored position of Whistle Carrier. My journey has been shaped by both my Native heritage and my deep faith in Jesus. I grew up learning the traditions of my people while also wrestling with what it meant to follow Christ as a Native man. Over time, I came to see that Creator made me Native on purpose—my culture and faith are not in opposition, but rather, they walk hand in hand. Now, my calling is to help students discover that same truth: that Jesus is for them, their families, and their traditions.

Education has played a vital role in my journey. I am a product of Tribal Colleges, institutions dedicated to empowering Native students while preserving Indigenous knowledge and traditions. My academic path eventually led me to earn an MBA, equipping me with the tools to engage in leadership, ministry, and community development. This foundation has helped shape my calling to invest in the next generation, particularly among college students who are seeking identity, faith, and purpose.

My passion for campus ministry has taken me across different spaces, from PULSE Movement, where I worked to bring large-scale evangelism efforts to young adults, to my current role with InterVarsity. Today, I serve as a Campus Staff Minister, leading HINU Fellowship at Haskell Indian Nations University and working with Catalyze, an initiative to plant ministries on campuses where none currently exist. Whether through discipleship, prayer, or outreach, my heart is to see students encounter Jesus in a way that speaks to who they are, equipping them to take the gospel beyond the campus and into their families, communities, and nations.

At the core of everything I do is my calling to do the work of an evangelist, as echoed in 2 Timothy 4:5: “Do the work of an evangelist, discharge all the duties of your ministry.” Whether it’s meeting one-on-one with students, leading prayer walks, or launching new ministries, my mission is clear: to bring the gospel to those who have never heard it and to disciple students to become leaders in the Kingdom.

Outside of ministry, I am a husband of 18+ years to my wife, Erin, and a father to our daughter, Quinn. Family is a huge part of my life and calling, and I strive to reflect my faith in both my home and my ministry. We also have a Shiba Inu named Belle, who keeps things lively. In my free time, I enjoy playing guitar, gaming with my childhood best friends, cooking, reading, and cycling.

What Others Are Saying

“Steven’s work at Haskell and with Catalyze is vital to reaching students and faculty at tribal colleges, where campus ministries have often been absent. He brings passion for Christ as Creator and a deep commitment to walking on Creator’s good road.”
